Pelvic Congestion Syndrome
This is a condition charaterised by large distended veins in the pelvis akin to varicose veins of the leg. Its cause is unknown but it can be a cause of pelvic pain and pain with intercourse, typically a post-coital ache.
Diagnosis is usually made at laparoscopy by the finding of very dilated veins. Treatment is usually with medication such as high dose medroxyprogesterone acetace(a hormone) or the oral contraceptive pill. In extreme circumstances patients may opt for a hysterectomy
